Registration Open for Annual Meeting and Spring Fundamentals CLE, June 1 in Rochester

The AILA Upstate NY chapter annual meeting will be held on Friday, June 1, at The Inn on Broadway in Rochester. The event will begin at 5 pm with an open bar until 6, followed by dinner.


The meeting is preceded by an all-day CLE conference targeted to newer practitioners. Our special guest is Seattle-area immigration lawyer Ally Lozano, who will speak on How to Be the CEO of Your Law Firm. Other panels will focus on removal defense, adjustment of status, change of status, and employment-based nonimmigrant visas. Attendance at all sessions earns six NY CLE credits.

Breakfast and lunch are included with the CLE.

The chapter meeting will include the election of chapter officers, presentation of the annual Mark Kenmore Mentor Award, and reports to the membership.

Juan Alsace, US Consul General, Toronto, Biography:
A Buffalo native, Mr. Alsace runs all operations at one of the world’s largest US consulates. This includes State, Commerce, Justice, Homeland Security, and Defense Dept. activity in Canada’s commercial, cultural, and financial capital. He has been a diplomat for 31 years, including stints heading Caribbean and Intelligence departments. Mr. Alsace was honored with numerous prestigious awards for this service.

2016 Chapter Meeting, May 26, Syracuse

The annual meeting of the Upstate NY Chapter of AILA was held on May 26, 2016, at the Dinosaur BBQ in Syracuse. Chapter Chair L.J. D’Arrigo presented the year in review and gave us a look ahead at what’s planned for 2016-2017. By vote of the members present, L.J. was elected to another one-year term as chair. Also elected to additional one-year terms were Brian Wang as vice chair, Divya Hoffmann as secretary, and Richard Link as treasurer.

Dave Wilks presented Wally Ruhle with the Mark Kenmore Mentor of the Year Award.

The members got an excellent and wide-ranging overview of recent developments in immigration law from our invited guest, Cyrus Mehta from New York City.
